Jobbik leader Gábor Vona campaigns in Ózd
Support for the ruling party alliance (FIDESZ-KDNP) has dropped over the past month, while the radical nationalist JOBBIK and the green LMP have enlarged their camp, pollster Nézőpont said on Monday. The poll was conducted from November 3 to 7 with a representative sample of 1,000 adults. The “large-scale protests” against plans to introduce an internet tax have left their mark on party preferences, Nézőpont said.
Across the whole electorate, the Fidesz-Christian Democrats had 29% support (down from 32% in mid-October), while the opposition Socialists stood at 7% (up from 6%). Jobbik raised its camp from 11 to 14%. Support for Ferenc Gyurcsány’s Democratic Coalition was 6% (up from 5%) while LMP was backed by 8% (up from 5%). Support for E-PM stood at 1% both in October and November. In Nézőpont’s category “potential voters”, the governing parties recorded 40% support, Jobbik 26%, the Socialists, 9%, DK 11%, LMP 8% and E-PM 4%.
JOBBIK also triumphed in the polling booths. The radical party’s candidate Dávid Janiczak won the repeat ballot for mayor in the city of Ózd in north-eastern Hungary on Sunday, the election office (NVI) has said. Janiczak garnered 64.35% of the vote, ahead of Pál Fürjes, the mayoral candidate of ruling FIDESZ, who received only 31.82%. The candidate of left opposition Socialists-DK garnered 3.28% of the votes in the once industrial city.
