ZOG buck - circa 2100
Zogopolis has spoken, loud and clear. They want Harriet Tubman to be the face of our $20 bill.
Right now, our currency is very male and very white. A grassroots campaign called Women on 20s hopes to change that, and started an online petition to replace Andrew Jackson on the twenty.
Women on 20s held two rounds of voting. After the first round, there were four finalists: Tubman, Wilma Mankiller, Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks. All extraordinary women, not just in their time, but in history.
In the end: Harriet Tubman won with 118,328 votes. Second place was Roosevelt with 111,227.
What does it all mean?
It doesn't take an "Act of Congress" - it just requires the Secretary of the Treasury to make the change.
Lew is an Orthodox Jew who observes the Jewish Sabbath and has attended Beth Sholom Congregation in Potomac, Maryland, Kesher Israel Congregation in Washington, D.C. and the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale in the Bronx, New York.
Interviewed in a 2010 article, Lew's former boss on the National Security Council, Sandy Berger, commented that "Lew's faith never got in the way of performing his duties." Berger also said that Lew's commitment to his family was also extremely important, but that Lew "was able to balance the requirements, which was very, very hard – and he was determined to observe his religious traditions."
A 2011 press release from the Religion News Service noted that Lew also "has extensive connections in the American Jewish community," and that he might be able to help President Obama "build a more friendly rapport" with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Women on 20s hopes the more than 600,000 voters in the online campaign will convince the President to use his influence and make it happen.
And what nightmare would be complete without Chuck Schumer?
US senator to HBO: Film Tubman movie at her New York home
AUBURN, N.Y. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is asking HBO to film its movie about abolitionist Harriet Tubman at the historic site of her former home in central New York.
The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (http://bit.ly/1KZKhHr ) that the New York Democrat sent a letter Tuesday to the cable television network and its parent company, Time Warner Cable, urging them to film in the town of Fleming, just outside the city of Auburn.
HBO announced last month that “How to Get Away with Murder” star Viola Davis will play Tubman in a movie about the abolitionist hero. Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland, escaped and led countless slaves from the South to freedom along the Underground Railroad.
Her home in Fleming is just outside the city limits of Auburn, where she’s buried.
